Ness Vignette #1:
Voyager 2 At Uranus (1986)

The relentless march of time has caused some of our planetarium shows to show their age. We try to make our shows generic enough so they don't become outdated, but it happens. We created "Voyager 2 At Uranus" within days following the Uranus encounter in 1986. Its primary appeal lay in the fact that we were the first to get timely information out to our planetarium customers in show form. Nowadays, it seems like ancient history (and our show The Voyager Encounters puts the entire mission into perspective). We have a few of these older show packages left on the shelf, and as they say on late-night TV ads, "when they're gone, they're gone"! Who knows -- they just might fit some special niche in your programming schedule.

NOTE: We opaqued or made a custom mask for each of the master slides from which we mass-duplicated the show sets. But the nature of the film copying process does not provide a "Dmax" (maximum density) black enough for the duplicated slides to be "dropped in a tray" and shown to a dark-adapted planetarium audience without insulting their aesthetic senses with "floating GRIS" (Gray Rectangles In Space). We recommend that you mask or opaque them, and re-mount them in Wess glass mounts.

Voyager 2 At Uranus In January of 1986, the Voyager 2 spacecraft encountered the planet Uranus and gave us a fascinating look at the seventh planet, its contingent of moons, and dark, mysterious rings. Voyager 2 At Uranus presents highlights of this exciting mission, and was created with technical guidance from Dr. James Warwick, Voyager Radio Astronomy Experiment Principal Investigator. The show recaps Voyager's previous encounters with Jupiter and Saturn, then highlights the discoveries about Uranus: its unusual polar tilt, atmosphere, and magnetic poles; the Uranian ring system, and the five major moons. It ends with a description of the extended Interstellar Mission, and the gold-plated record's sounds and images of Earth.
