HST Status

HUBBLE Vision 2 update

In the five years since we produced HUBBLE Vision 2, we've updated the text of the ending "HST status slide" several times. Now that the 2009 servicing mission has been completed successfully, we've created another new visual that should be a relevant and appropriate show-closer for many years to come.

For those with classic show packages, the current image is a free download.

New fulldome customers ordering the show will get the updated ending text as a matter of course, of course.

And if you already have HUBBLE Vision 2 fulldome (and more than four dozen of you do!) contact us, and we'll see about working out the details to get you an update.

Other Fulldome Shows and Producers

We often get calls and correspondence asking about the fulldome shows we create. Over the course of the conversations, the questions inevitably occur: "What other shows are out there? Who else makes them?" While we tend to know who else is producing fulldome shows, there hasn't been a consolidated listing of those shows made available anywhere... until now.

As a complement to the LNP FULLDOME THEATER COMPENDIUM ONLINE!, we've created another compendium of sorts, this one listing Other Fulldome Shows And Producers. We hope you find the information useful.

Light Years From Andromeda now in fulldome!

The first of our classic analog-era planetarium shows, Light Years From Andromeda, is now a full-fledged fulldome show. Featuring a fantastic flight through intergalactic space, volumetric galaxies, and scenes from humanity's long history, your audiences can follow our famous "beam of light from a blazing blue star" as it travels across more than 2.5 million light-years of space.

Light Years from Andromeda is a new take on an old favorite and ready for your theater. You can watch (or download) the trailer — as well as preview the entire show. Check it out!

Light Years From Andromeda updated
for classic theaters

The first of our classic analog-era planetarium shows, Light Years From Andromeda, has become the last in the catalog to be recreated in the fulldome video medium. While production on the fulldome show is proceeding apace, we took the opportunity to make a few edits to Michael Dorn's narration, to tweak the accuracy of some of the original 1980 numbers (the measured distances to Betelgeuse and Andromeda became more refined over the three intervening decades since the show was first written).

If you're a classic customer and want to update your show with the 2009 edit, we've got an update for you. More info in the sidebar on this page.

Star*Lines for DigitalSky

Star*Lines For DigitalSky

Introduced in 1989, our Star*Line series of constellation artwork images quickly became a classic planetarium favorite. We shipped thousands of gelled Kodalith slides hand-mounted in Wess glass mounts, and they adorned the heavens from carefully-aimed single-shot and carousel slide projectors from coves around the world. And they've transcended their planetarium origins; we've licensed their usage in all kinds of other applications — from hospital signage to personal tattoos!

As the medium of the planetarium has moved from analog film to digital projection, we've moved our Star*Lines into the digital night sky too.

If you're a user of Sky-Skan's DigitalSky (we are!), we've put together a great add-on package for you.

We're Doing Podcasts for IYA

Loch Ness Productions is proud to be a sponsor for the International Year of Astronomy's 365 Days of Astronomy podcast project.

Each day throughout 2009 there will be a new podcast about astronomy published on the 365 Days of Astronomy web site, which contains a calendar of astronomy events and podcasts. These 'casts are also available through iTunes and via RSS syndication. The podcast episodes are written, recorded, and produced by people around the world — ranging from astronomy enthusiasts to science writers and producers to fulltime astronomy researchers.

We are extremely pleased to be producing 12 podcasts for the project — one per month. Each episode features Carolyn Collins Petersen talking about a fascinating astronomy story and sometimes interviewing astronomers about their work. They're all set against a backdrop of Mark Petersen's well-known Geodesium space music and backed up by images and references on Carolyn's TheSpacewriter.com blog. Our first podcast is scheduled for January 6 and a list of our productions (including dates and topics) is available at TheSpacewriter.com.

Here's last year's news, in case you haven't been here for a while and want to catch up.
